Are you suffering from misconceptions about security and your technology? You might think you’re being safe, but web threats, employee behavior, data protection and now the “Cloud” present daunting challenges for any business.  Currently, the most prevalent threat to corporate security is lack of understanding the complexity of security and compliance issues, how to identify vulnerabilities and how to implement effective security policies and tools that can be managed.

Let us help raise your Business Security IQ (Internet Quotient).  Have you considered…
• Nearly 75 percent of U.S. organizations have had a mobile device or laptop theft in the past 12 months
• Employees spend 20 to 25% of time using the Internet for non-sanctioned purposes
• How secure is the cloud and what dangers should you know about?
• What is required to build a secure, compliant and cost-efficient IT infrastructure?

Webinar attendees will be eligible to receive a complimentary VirtualGreen Office Technology Assessment including a complete 3, 5, 10-year ROI and migration plan for virtualization and secure cloud services.

Computer Mentors Group, Inc. Lands A “Greenback” Technology Donation

GreenBack Nonprofit Wish List, ITs Easy Being Green, Launch Pad News No comments

Computer Mentors Group, a local nonprofit organization comprised of computer professionals dedicated to encouraging and guiding at risk youth toward a career in the computer industry, became the latest recipient of a “Greenback” technology donation. The organization received seven desktop workstations donated from various Tampa Bay business organizations.

“This donation will be used to facilitate our programs which includes our Youth Computer Certification and Ownership Program.  The “at risk” youth in this program are striving to earn a personal computer, that they will refurbish, and an IC3 computer certification which will also earn them a college credit,” says Ralph Smith, Executive Director of Computer Mentors.

“We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to engage with the local community in this way and thankful to the Tampa Bay area business for their donations,” says CEO Ilene Rosoff. Aside from good will and green IT, these donations have the added incentive of providing a tax write-off for the contributing businesses.

On October 23rd Computer Mentors will be hosting their 5th Annual Technology Bowl. The event is described as a “Family Feud” style panel competition where teams of teenagers will use their knowledge of computers and technology to compete for some great technology prizes.  To learn more about the event or to sponsor a team, please visit Computer Mentors or contact Ralph Smith at (813) 236-1191 or RSmith@computermentors.org.

The Launch Pad’s Greenback Community Outreach Program  helps nonprofit organizations with their technology needs by repurposing gently used computer equipment.  Nonprofit organizations can take advantage of this program by visiting our website and filling out a wish list.  We will tweet and blog your requests and as well as post them requests in our newsletter.  If you are a business interested in donating equipment, list the items in our GreenBack™ program form on our website and indicate if you wish to designate your equipment to be donated to the local nonprofit of choice or the next in need on our list.

Our Easy-to-GreenIT Initiative helps businesses to implement green technologies, sign up for a complimentary Green Technology Audit or contact Megan Meisner at mmeisner@launchpadonline.com or 813 920 0788 x210 for more information.

Tech Rec: Nikon’s CoolPix S1100pj - A Pocket-Cam Packing a Projector

Launch Pad News, TechRecs: Cool Tools & Hot Topics No comments

Nikon has just released an updated version of their CoolPix S1100pj camera with a built in projector and the new version is an improvement over the old in almost every way. The new version is smaller, less expensive and is a handy tool for the business person looking  to make presentations on the fly.

The camera features have been improved with a pixel-count of 14MP, an ISO rating 6400, and a 5x zoom, but what’s really great about the S1100pj is the projector feature.  Simply hook the camera up to your Mac or PC and project your PowerPoint presentation with it’s 14-lumen projector.  The brightness of the projector is 40% higher than it’s predecessor, so that it’s possible to use the projector even in lit spaces.  Of course the projection surface has some limitations with a maximum image size of 47 inches at a distance of 4 meters but for presentations to a small group of people, the projector works surprisingly well.   With a battery capacity of one hour, you may want to bring along the camera’s AC adapter as a back up power solution.

Available in September, the price for this new S1100pj is $350.00.  For more information on solutions for your business, contact Megan Meisner, mmeisner@launchpadonline.com or 813-920-0788 x210.
