Every day, I read several tech blogs, newsletters, and IT industry publications and I would estimate that 90% of them are talking about “the cloud” in some capacity. Many of them are pretty standard and sound about the same as articles from 2-3 years ago; what is the cloud, who is using it, who is running it, etc. However, one topic that seems to still keep coming up as an issue is security in the cloud, especially with the advances mobile computing has made in the business world.

Mobile Acceptance: “Cutting the cord” and enabling “Deskless” technology for business use

Is your business using mobile or “smart” devices (i.e. iPhone, Android Phone, Tablets, and/or notebooks) and experiencing as much productivity from them as desktop computers? Are any of your employees using their personal devices for professional use? Or, do you allow your employees to use company-issued devices outside of work and/or for personal use? Like most companies, the use of both employee-owned and company-owned mobile devices (i.e. smart phones, notebooks, and tablets) is driving demand for round-the-clock access to company tools and data. Executives, business managers, and other employees already use mobile devices to browse the web, send/receive email, and to conduct other personal activities, and with that, they also desire access to sales reports, inventory data, customer information, and other data from the same devices. However, most companies offer little or no support for this type of access and there are numerous productivity gains being missed out on as a result.

Ilene Rosoff Presenting at the 2011 PEDC Business Conference

The Business Growth Conference featured workshops designed specifically for small business owners on topics including finance, online media, marketing, technology and more. The one-day conference also included informative and inspiring speakers and small business resources.

The event was attended by many members of the entrepreneurial community as well as community & civic leaders, established business owners, entrepreneur support organizations, economic development organizations, educational institutions, and individuals that are interested in starting a new business. Other speakers - some of the Bay Area’s top business leaders - led riveting presentations on topics such as finance, importing/exporting, HR, mobile marketing, business planning, and social media.

New Team Member - Welcome Shon Holder!

The third new employee announcement (of five this week) is Shon Holder, our Business Office Manager. Shon does what every good office manager does - keep us all organized, efficient, and running smoothly - and then some! If we come into the office and see a candy bar on our desk in the morning, you know where it came from. Or, if you want a good laugh, just have Shon do a training exercise in front of everyone in the office :)

I began working as the Assistant Guest Services Manager at Tampa Convention Center. In 2010 I started a Lifestyle Management company, providing personal assisting and concierge services to clients nationwide.

Favorite meal: 801 Chophouse Filet Mignon with Truffle Mashed potatoes!!

What lead you to The Launch Pad: Before I applied, I did some research on the company and had a really good feeling about their direction. I was looking for an opportunity with a company that was growing and making an impact - and The Launch Pad certainly fit the bill. The people here are great, and it’s such a great working environment!
